The Australian Survey of Social Attitudes (AuSSA) – methodological issues and key findings

Convenor:
David Denemark

Political Science and International Relations

University of Western Australia

Synopsis:
This stream will explore the design, construction and utilisation of the Australia Survey of Social Attitudes (AuSSA). The stream will review methodological issues in designing a national survey instrument, as well as in implementing the survey (sample derivation, international module inclusion, demographic reliability etc.) and in using both individual survey responses and aggregate measures in research. The panel will involve two types of presentations. First, papers reporting key findings from the 2005 or 2007 waves of AuSSA; and second, technical discussions of aspects of survey design relevant to AuSSA. It is intended that the second of these be informal forums, tapping contributions from several of those involved in constructing AuSSA, putting it into the field, and archiving it.
